10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
The first fruits of the barley harvest are called an ‘Omer’. It is waved by the priest on the day after the weekly Sabbath which is the first day of the week. This is important because you need to know when the barley comes to a head in the land of Israel and nowhere else. Passover and the rest of the spring feasts are timed accordingly to the Aviv or barley harvest. It is the beginning of the New Year and the appointed days of YAHWEH. Some would say that this is being too detailed and picky; however, our YAHWEH is on time and in order. It is better to go according to His set time than to try and devise another way which will put you on another schedule. Three times a year, men were to appear before YAHWEH at the place where He put His Name. Shavuot/Pentecost is the second time.
The wave sheaf of barley begins the time of not eating any of the produce of the land until the sheaf is brought to YAHWEH. Now, we don’t live in the land so how do we acknowledge this in our places? Follow the time announced in the Land of Israel. We cannot substitute the barley, so anything that we have is an offering. We can bring an offering to the community of our increase and substance to show our appreciation for what our Father has given us. It may be money, food, or whatever resources that YAHWEH has graciously blessed you. Every man has to have something and not be empty-handed. Whatever your resource is; a portion is offered on that day for the wave sheaf for your first fruit.
This feast begins the count of the Omer in the land of Israel of forty-nine (49) days, which is seven (7) Sabbaths; seven complete weeks of days. This is called the Feast of Weeks. Lev. 10:15. The first day of the feast of weeks is the Wave Sheaf of First Fruits, which occurs on the first day of the week coming after the weekly Shabbat. This is a time of prayer and thanksgiving for what is come following the 49 day; Pentecost/Shavuot! The feast of weeks ends on the weekly Sabbath and the fiftieth (50) day is the first day of the week!
This is how a week begins on the first day and ends on the seventh day. Looking at it spiritually, after the forty-ninth day at evening, there is a change, a new beginning.
I know that there are some that have a problem with it beginning and ending on the first day of the week because of what it has been made out to be; however, YAHWEH calls it the first day of the week and that’s all it is, no more, no less.
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
The day after the forty-ninth day is called Pentecost, meaning to count fifty. On this first Pentecost day our forefathers received the commandments written by YAHWEH on tablets of stone.
The promise of keeping covenant.
Our forefathers journeyed until they reached Mt Horeb, the same mountain that Moshe saw the burning bush. It was in the third month that they camped there and the fiftieth day was upon them.
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. 7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
The Ten Commandments
This was the marriage contract or Ketubah between YAHWEH and Israel, still binding and enforce today to all that are Israel, naturally or spiritually.
At that time, the laws were in stone and the first set was broken by Moshe because of the disobedience of the people in creation and worship of the calf in the presence of YAHWEH and calling it a feast and an image in His honor. This caused the death of three-thousand souls on that very same day.
In mercy, YAHWEH wrote them again this time on our hearts for us to renew the covenant. Jer.31:31-34, 31“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,[a] says the Lord. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
Shavuot/Pentecost in the time of Messiah
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
41. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized, and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
A Promise given!
This time, the promise was the Comforter, the Ruach of YAHWEH, that would forever be with us to lead and guide us into all truth, order our steps, remind us of words spoken by YAHSHUA and in Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Three thousand souls were added to the believers on that very same day! Is this a coincidence? Hardly, there is a reason for everything in YAHWEH!
**The feast of weeks is prophetic in that it also gives you the timing for JUBILEE. Forty-nine (49) years, then on the fiftieth (50) year, there is the release (change). We will get into that study later on.
